Construction work is commencing for Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) Sustainable Highlands Highway Investment Programme. The project is costing close to US$920 million and involves maintaining and improving the existing highway link. The new link will improve transport between Kagamuga Airport and Nadzab. The 428km highway project is being carried out in three main stages, with funding being supplied by the 943 Asian Development Bank (ADB). Chinese contractors are building all three sections of the route. Metallurgical Corp of China (1351 MCC) is building the first stretch of the highway while 1581 China Wu Yi is building the second section and China Harbour Engineering Co (CHEC)is building the third.
