A new Northern Nigerian highway is open to drivers.
Transport in Northern Nigeria has been improved with the official opening of the new highway connecting Kano and Maidugri. The new road features two lanes in either direction for most of its length.
Located in the North East of Nigeria, Maidugri lies close to Nigeria’s borders with Cameroon and Chad and lies on an important international trade, which the 104km upgraded road will facilitate. Kano meanwhile is close to Nigeria’s border with Niger to the north.
The improved route will cut journey times between the two cities considerably, as well as boosting safety by reducing the risk of head-on collisions caused by dangerous overtaking.
This is the most recent of several new highways with two lanes in either direction that have been opened recently in Nigeria. Other highways opened recently include the link connecting Sokoto with Tambuwal, Jega, Kontagora and Makera Road, the road between Vandeikya and Obudu Cattle Ranch and the road between Nnewe and Oduma.
