Work is starting on a section of the expressway linking Shanghai and Kunming in China. The improvement works will boost capacity for drivers, allowing speeds of up to 100km/h. The work is for the stretch of the expressway route between Changfu and Jinyushi, with construction starting in Yichun City.

Construction work for the US$3.1 billion upgrade project will take over three years. Additional lanes for the expressway will increase capacity and reduce delays at peak periods.

In addition, plans are being drawn up for the $308.3 million upgrade of the expressway linking Nanchan and Zhangshu. The stretch of expressway to be improved is around 10km in length. The construction work is expected to take three years to complete.
