The E6 contract relates to the stretch connecting Vinstra and Sjoa in Gudbrandsdalen and is worth some €185.71 million. The construction work is now commencing and will take until October 2016 to complete. The project is for 16km of the E6 however it will include tunnel construction work. Hard, competent rock conditions mean that drill and blast tunnel techniques are commonly used in Norway though at this stage the tunneling method to be used has not been revealed. The project is of particular note as the E6 highway is of importance for Norway. While the country is one of Europe’s most affluent, its highway network outside of capital Oslo has been criticised and the E6 project represents an important step in improving the overall network.
Meanwhile Statens Vegvesen awarded the E18 contract to Swedish contractor5211 NCC. The deal is for a 6.25km stretch of road and is worth €95.81 million, with the highway featuring four lanes with two in either direction. The project includes the construction of no less than 10 bridges, as well as improvements the drainage system in Hobøl Municipality. The work is due for completion in 2016.
