The contract for a major road and tunnel construction project has been awarded in Norway. The Swedish contractor Skanska will carry out the work, with the deal worth nearly €294 million.

The package of words was awarded by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen). The deal involves building a 20km stretch of highway between Ramstadsletta to the west Norwegian capital Oslo and Strand. The highway will feature three lanes in either direction with the most challenging section being the 1.3km Høviktunnel tunnel. The work will also require a number of changes for the local roads as well as the construction of a new bridge.

The project is due to commence in June 2022 and should be ready for use in 2028. Once complete, the new highway will form part of the E18 route. The project forms part of the major E18 Western Corridor (E18 Vestkorridoren) highway, connecting Lysaker in Bærum and Drengsrud in Asker Municipality.
