Gabon is planning a major road project linking capital Libreville with Haut-Ogooue Province. This project will provide an improved 780km route from Libreville, on the coast, with Haut-Ogooue Province, located in the east of the country. As Haut-Ogooue Province is situated next the border with the Republic of the Congo, the new road link will also provide an important international route helping to boost trade. The project will require sections of the existing N1 and N3 routes to be rebuilt. Haut-Ogooue Province is an important area for Gabon’s minerals extraction sector and improving the road link will help boost this industry.

Meanwhile separate works have been carried out to improve links between Libreville and the Republic of the Congo’s capital, Brazzaville. This has resulted in stretches of Gabon’s N1 route being improved, as well as sections of the N3 and N1 in the Republic of the Congo.
