The tendering process is being planned for the upgrade of the road connection linking Costa Rica’s capital, San Jose, with the nearby city of Cartago. The tender is being handled by the country’s national concessions agency, Consejo Nacional de Concesiones (CNC).

The project is to improved the tolled highway connecting San Jose and Cartago. The two cities are around 25km apart and studies carried out by the engineering firm MECO have estimated the cost of the work at US$500 million. Improving the tolled route is expected to take 12-24 months to complete according to MECO’s studies.

Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Works and Transports (MOPT) has still to give its full approval to MECO’s proposal for the work.
