India highway planning
The Indian Government has set out plans to award highway projects worth at least US$8.84 billion during the next fiscal year. These projects will be offered under the hybrid annuity model, according to a report in the Economic Times. India to lay 15,000km of roads in 2016/17
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has set a target to lay 15,000km of roads during 2016/17, according to a government source.
The target means that around 40km of roads will be paved each day - two times the current figure, according to the business magazine Steel Guru.
The National Highways and Industrial Development Corporation’s target is 7,000km and that of the National Highways Authority of India is 8,000km.

BKT launches SR 45 Plus giant tyre for rigid dumpers
Balkrishna Industries (BKT) has entered the market for rigid dumper truck tyres with its new SR 45 Plus 2.7m diameter radial tyre. On show for the first time at bauma, the tyre has all steel casing for stability and resistance to cuts, tears and abrasions. According to a new report from Timetric’s Construction Intelligence Center (CIC), the global construction industry is gradually regaining strength. This comes after a prolonged period of sluggishness in the wake of the global financial crisis. India – major road widening projects awarded
Major road widening projects for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Local construction company PNC Infratech will widen key routes in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. One of the projects will be to widen a 102km stretch of the Nagina-Kashipur section of NH-74 00 to four lanes. The contract is worth some US$174.2 million.
India: work starts on Maharashtra road projects worth $4.5 billion
Work has started on road projects worth about US$4.5 billion in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Projects include a flyover connecting Pune Naka and Sat Rasta Chowk, as well as the four-laning of four roads, namely NH-13, NH 150E, NH-166 and NH9.
Meanwhile, within the coming year, nearly 700km of in the state of Tamil Nadu are to be upgraded and transferred to the National Highways Authority, according to a report in SteelGuru.

Flyover collapses in Indian city Kolkata
A flyover has collapsed in the Indian city of Kolkata. Reports from the local press suggest 14 fatalities and upwards of 150 people being trapped in the wreckage. The Times of India reports that the flyover was under construction at the time of its collapse and the reason for the structural failure has yet to be determined. The flyover is located in a densely populated area in the north of the city and the death toll looks likely to climb.

Construction machine sales strong reports CECE
The European construction equipment market is performing relatively well in global terms. However striking regional disparities remain, according to the Annual Economic Report for 2016 from the European construction equipment manufacturing association, CECE. Data from the report shows that excluding Russia, the European market for construction machines grew by 3.5% in 2015 and it forecasts a slight increase in business for 2016.

The planning process for a major tunnel project in India now looks set to be delayed. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) cancelled the bid process for the US$1.46 billionn Zozila tunnel project on National Highway 1 in Jammu & Kashmir. IRB Infrastructure Developers in India had previously received a letter of award (LoA) to perform construction, operation and maintenance on the tunnel on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (annuity) basis. Comer Industries sees nearly a 10% drop in sales for full year 2015
Year end results for Comer Industries showed revenue down at €327 million, a 9.4% dip from €361 million for fiscal year 2014.
