A loan facility worth US$175 million will help pay for upgrade works to 350 bridges in India’s Madhya Pradesh State.

The contract has been awarded for the Mumbai sea link project in India. The Versova-Bandra Sea Link Project is expected to cost US$987.6 million to build and is should take five years to construct. When complete the 17.7km bridge will be the longest sea crossing in India. The project will be handled by a consortium made up of Astaldi and Reliance Infrastructure under an engineering, procurement and construction package. The deal was awarded by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

India’s Uttar Pradesh State has awarded a consultancy contract for two expressway projects. The two new routes are for the 150km Prayag Link Expressway and the 88.5km Gorakhpur Link Expressway. The consultancy contract will be carried out by KITCO, a state-owned company. Both expressways are to be built with two lanes in either direction, although the designs of both will allow for an additional lane in either direction at a later point in time if required by traffic demand.

India continues to develop its road network, with the country’s ambitious plans moving ahead. Contracts for 6,320km of road projects have so far been awarded by the current Indian Government. This is for the first phase of the programme and the work is worth a massive US$20.95 billion in all. However the entire programme of road development will cover some 84,000km of roads and will be worth an eye-popping $109.1 billion.

Land is being acquired for a major expressway project in India. In all 10,649 individual land sale arrangements have been made with 20,916 owners for the Nagpur-Mumbai expressway project. Buying the land has cost close to US$775 million so far, with around 86% of the land needed for the project having now been acquired. The deals have been handled by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Dana has signed an agreement to purchase the drive systems segment of the Switzerland-based Oerlikon Group for around US$600 million. The deal, pending regulatory approval, is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter 2019 at the latest. Oerlikon’s drive systems business makes high-precision gears, planetary hub drives for tracked vehicles and products, controls and software that support vehicle electrification across the mobility industry.

Indonesia’s Chandra Asri Petrochemical plans to work with the government to test the effectiveness of plastic-mixed asphalt. In the early stage, Chandra Asri will use three tonness of plastic waste-asphalt mix to pave around 6.3km or roads around the its own plant, said Edi Rivai, general manager of technical services and production. Rivai said the plastic-asphalt mix with around 6% plastic is usually around 30-40% more durable than pure asphalt.

A new expressway project is being planned for India’s Uttar Pradesh State. A loan worth US$1.75 billion is being provided by the Punjab National Bank that will help pay for the construction of the route. Building the new expressway is expected to take three years to complete. Revenue from the tolls collected will be used to pay back the loan inn a series of installments.

Metso is increasing production capacity at its facility in India so as to meet growing market demand for aggregates production equipment. The factory is located at Alwar in Rajasthan and this latest investment in the facility will boost production of crushing and screening equipment at the site by 35%. By increasing capacity of the Metso Park factory in Alwar, the firm says that it will help to boost its market share in India, while also having more machines available for export to other Asian countries.

A new bridge crossing is being planned for the River Ganges in northern India. The bridge will be 9.9km long and will cost US$291 million to build, with completion scheduled for late 2021. The bridge will carry three lanes in either direction and will be built at Allahabad, the confluence of the Ganges and its tributary, the Yamuna River.
