The new R 946 has an operating weight of around 40tonnes. The crawler excavator’s new six-cylinder Liebherr engine delivers 200 kW and integrates a new stage IV/ Tier 4f exhaust gas treatment system. The robust steel structure of the Liebherr R 946 crawler excavator is said to be key to the machine's reliability, especially in the most difficult applications. The design of the undercarriage itself improves the machine's performance and service life. The connection of the central component, which extends to the end of the side members, provides better distribution of forces and increases the service life of the travel mechanism, improving the equipment's overall reliability.

The cutting-edge technology used in the integrated Liebherr systems ensure the crawler excavator offers high levels of performance. This technology is based on Positive Control hydraulic systems: a smart system which uses sensors placed at strategic locations on an excavator. Each operator control is processed by the control computer, which optimises the operation of the engine and the hydraulic system. This ensures work is quick, fluid and precise. As needed, the circuits are separated or joined to ensure optimum use of energy. Every drop of fuel yields the maximum amount of energy.

In terms of maintenance, the Liebherr R 946 crawler excavator has been designed to speed up operations carried out every day and improve machine availability. The maintenance areas are easy to access and the R 946 has automatic central lubrication as standard. The operator can also easily check the engine oil and urea solution levels via the control display.

The new R 946 offers a spacious cab that provides a pleasant working environment for the driver. The cab’s integrated roll-over protection (ROPS) complies with the ISO-121117 standard and ensures the driver remains safe in all situations. The engine compartment lighting allows maintenance to be carried out on the machine easily and in complete safety. The lower windshield wiper, 360° camera and timed lights-out feature also help to optimise the working environment and ensure it is as safe as possible.
