The town is the commercial centre of Finland's northernmost province, Lapland, and contactor, Maansiirtoliike Kemppe, is using the excavator for earthmoving on the new Kiveliöntie road. The 2.5km route will extend from the centre of the town in a north-westerly direction to the suburbs of the Korkalovaara district. The firm specialises in road construction and utilities work and has been engaged by the region’s authorities to help with improvements to infrastructure and road safety in Rovaniemi.
The project started in January 2014 and is scheduled to finish in October 2015.
