The humble Vauxhall Corsa and Astra models in the UK are amongst several models from the GM division now being targeted by thieves. Rather than stealing entire cars however, the thieves steal wheels and body parts. The sports versions of the Corsa are at particular risk of being targeted in this fashion, with thieves stealing front valances, rear bumpers, doors, bonnets, wheels, seats. The reason for the Corsa being targeted in this fashion is thought to be because of its popularity with young drivers. The Corsa is frequently customised with aftermarket parts to make it appear sportier, while the sort of younger drivers who do this are also at greater risk of crashing and damaging their vehicles. As a result, there is known to be a ready market for parts to repair damaged vehicles.
