The contract for widening work to a stretch of the A9 route in Scotland has been awarded to Balfour Beatty.

Volvo CE is commencing operations of its low emission quarrying operation in Sweden. The facility has a strong focus on electric machines, with diesel-electric hybrid equipment also being used. Improvements to a key road link connecting Uganda with Kenya will benefit from a financing package provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The 73km section of road connecting Kapchorwa in Uganda with Suam in Kenya will receive US$105 million of funding. This will help improve trade and transport between the two nations.

China continues to develop its expressway network. According to official figures from China’s Ministry of Transport, the expressway network grew by 8130km during 2017. This was an increase of 6.5% over 2016. A further 5.,000km of expressways should be added to the network during 2018. In all China’s tolled expressways extend for some 132,638km.

Highways England reports that the Silverlink triple-deck roundabout in North Tyneside is 80% complete and on schedule for opening in March next year.
