Demand for exhibition space at the inaugural bauma Africa has meant the event has again been expanded. Instead of the originally planned 200 exhibitors, the premiere of bauma Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa from 18-21 September, is now expecting to host around 400 exhibitors. The resulting increase in demand for exhibition space means the event being expanded again, by another 15,000m2 to a total of 50,000m2. Two road construction projects have been awarded in Vientiane province, Laos. One, granted to Sekko Construction Company by the Public Works and Transport Department of Vientiane province, will be initially funded by Sekko and it will be repaid within ten years by the state. The US$19.05 million, 9.3km road will connect Nanin village of Vi engkham district with Thaxan village of Keo-oudom district.

A new partnership between Jamaica and the UK is intended to reduce road deaths in the Caribbean country. This novel agreement on improving road safety forms part of international twinning programme. Organisers of bauma 2013 say that this year’s event is likely to be the biggest in the history of the bauma show. Between 15th and 21st April, 2013, Messe München will be opening the gates on the world´s largest construction equipment trade show. This year’s event will cover a total of 570,000m² of exhibition space, spread between 16 halls, accounting for 180,000m², and the outdoor exhibition area, offering 390,000m². The authorities in Senegal have awarded a US$ 142.6 million package of works to Spanish contractor Isolux. The work involves construction of two stretches of the RN6 highway measuring some 194.5km in total. Also included in the deal is work to the new bridge at Kolda. The project will involve widening, improvement and modification works to the highway. The areas where work will be carried out lie between the Casamance River and the border with Guinea Bissau and in the towns of Kolda and Ziguinchor.

The UK’s Highways Agency is telling drivers to take extra care and to stick speed limits at roadworks, to prevent deaths and injuries among both road users and road workers. Tenders have now been received for the Mersey Gateway Project from all three shortlisted bidders competing to deliver the project on behalf of Halton Borough Council.
