Construction work on a new road link connecting Mulalo with Loboguerrero in Colombia will commence in the third quarter of 2018. The 31km link is being handled by Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) and is expected to cost US$560.5 million. The plans are being drawn up for the project while the necessary environmental permits are being sought from Colombia’s National Environmental Licensing Agency (ANLA). The new link will be located in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca department.

Nearly 450km of new roads will be added to the Polish road network during 2018. Of these close to 410km will be of dual carriageways. According to the Polish roads authority GDDKiA, the figure of 450km will beat the record 350km of roads constructed in 2018. This will also beat the earlier record of 330km of dual carriageways, which was set in 2012. A new highway in China’s Guangdong Province is being planned, with construction due to commence in 2019. The 54km link will improve transport for Jiangmen City and is expected to open to traffic in 2022. Called the Yinzhouhu Highway, the project is expected to cost US$1.4 billion to construct. The high expense of the project for its length is due to the undulating terrain, with the need for four tunnel stretches as well as 25 bridges.

Mexico’s Guadalajara bypass is now open to traffic. The 111km route is in Jalisco State and cost close to US$451 million to construct. The highway is Mexico’s second most important bypass, after the bypass around capital Mexico City. Jalisco State has benefited from a series of major transport infrastructure projects worth a total of $2.82 billion. Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. The work for the Caracollo-Confital stretch was to have been completed by January 2018 but will now be finished by September 2018. This stretch was delayed by poor weather as well as material

Contractor STRABAG has won deals to construct two more sections of the S7 route in Poland for some €198 million. The firm will build a total of 36km of the S7 route to the north of capital Warsaw. The construction work for the four lane route is expected to take 34 months to complete. One stretch runs from Strzegowo to Pieńki and is 22km long, the other stretch is 14km long and runs from Pieńki to Płońsk. Volvo CE is now offering its own range of rigid haul trucks. There are four machines in the range from the 40tonne class R45D up to the top of the range R100E for the 90tonne class. The trucks have been developed with the assistance of in-house expertise at the Terex Trucks facility in Motherwell, Scotland, which Volvo CE now owns. The range is being launched initially in less regulated markets and comprises the R45D, R60D, R70D and R100E. The R60D and R70D are for the 54tonne and 65tonne payload classes

Louis Berger has been awarded the management contract for the Versova-Bandra Sea Link project in India. The US$17 million project management services deal was awarded to the firm by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Work on the first stretch of the US$55.6 million bypass around Rabat is now complete. The 6km stretch of the N°2 Rabat-Salé route forms part of a wider plan to develop Rabat. The final stretch linking El Oulja with the N°6 national road should be complete in the next few months. The new bypass is intended to reduce the chronic congestion that can occur in the area at peak periods, resulting in far longer travel times for drivers.
