A planned series of road improvement and upgrade works is intended to help reduce Bangkok’s chronic congestion problems. In all 204 road projects are planned for Bangkok or the surrounding area. A major road development will be the establishment of a new link connecting Myanmar with other countries in South East Asia. The new highway will allow drivers to travel from Myanmar to Thailand as well as Vietnam and Cambodia. A loan worth US$144.3 million from Thailand will help pay for the section of the route in Myanmar between Dawei and Hteekee. The key infrastructure policy adviser to US president Donald Trump has resigned, according to US media reports. DJ Gribbin is "moving on" to pursue unspecified opportunities, a White House official told the Washington Examiner newspaper. Gribbin joined the White House staff in February 2017 to advise Trump on how he could fulfil his election promise to boost infrastructure spending with around US$200 billion. Construction work has restarted for Mexico’s Oaxaca-Ventanilla-Huatulco road project. The project has been delayed for around 10 years and is expected to cost around US$189 million to carry out. The new highway will connect Oaxaca with Ventanilla and Huatulco.

A major toll road development programme in Indonesia will see nearly 70km of new links opening by 2023. The programme is worth US$2.99 billion and has been pushed forward by Jakarta Tollroad Development (JTD). Around 50% of the planned links are already complete.

The transport ministers of Austria, Hungary and Slovenia have signed an agreement to cooperate on the development of autonomous vehicles and e-mobility. Ringway, a Eurovia company in the UK, has taken part in a self-driving vehicle test on public roads in the English city of Milton Keynes. For the three-day test, two Ringway trucks provided a rolling roadblock behind an autonomous Jaguar Land Rover passenger vehicle. The trucks were there to ensure other highways users were safe and not inconvenienced by the tests, according to Ringway. Ringway also supplied two supervisors and two traffic management vehicles.

Mexico’s Puebla State has a road infrastructure plan under development. In all the work is expected to cost US$612.6 million, with the schedule seeing construction carried out from 2018-2019. SBI International Holdings will carry out US$93 million of road construction works in Guatemala. The works will be for the upgrading of four sections of road in Alta Verapaz and Quiche that measure just over 144km. The deal was awarded by Guatemala’s Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV). SBI International Holdings is a subsidiary of Israeli firm Solel Boneh International.
