The US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) has revealed data showing that exports of construction equipment dropped 25% in 2013 compared to the previous year. The exports of machines were worth some US$$20 billion in all. The data comes from the US Commerce Department and is being highlighted in the AEM’s trend reports. According to the information, all world regions recorded declines in imports of construction machines.

Industry associations and manufacturers have reached an agreement on telematics data. A large group off heavy equipment manufacturers, fleet managers and two leading industry associations have agreed on unified communications for telematics.

Two leading Canadian screen media manufacturers, W.S.Tyler and Major Wire Industries, have used Conexpo 2014 to unveil the next stage of their joint partnership. The two firms believe that they complement each another very well, and that they now have the ability to offer one of the industry’s widest range of screen media solutions including their Ty-Wire and Flex-Mat 3 products.

Hyundai used Conexpo 2014 to launch the HR120C-9, the first in a new range of soil compactors that will only be available in selected markets. The HR120C-9, made for Hyundai by Atlas Weyhausen, is a 12tonne machine equipped with a smooth drum and a permanent front axle weight of 6.9tonnes.

Caterpillar is increasing its range of surface drilling products with the new MD5150C Track Drill, unveiled this week at Conexpo 2014. As the first of the company’s C Series drills, the MD5150C comes with a choice of three different rock drills and is said to deliver class-leading power and high airflow rates for the fast, efficient drilling of holes from 101.6mm to 152mm in diameter.

Dynapac has launched the only 2.55m-wide material transfer vehicle (MTV) in the market: the Dynapac Mobile Feeder MF2500CS. The new machine has been designed to be easy and cost effective to transport, with no permissions or special transport vehicles required to get it about.

IPAF supports the position paper issued by the Fédération Européenne de la Manutention (FEM) Product Group for Cranes and Lifting Equipment, which makes clear that tower cranes are designed and manufactured to lift loads, not people. The paper also highlights that cranes should not be used for entertainment purposes. Such rides will not be permitted at CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is staging the global launch of its Tier 4 Final equipment range at Conexpo 2014. The new Tier 4 line-up, among 17 innovative products on show, includes new generation E-Series excavators, G-Series articulated haulers and H-Series wheeled loaders.
