Work is commencing on Warsaw’s ring road project. The work will be carried out on the A section of the Warsaw Southern Ring-Road (POW). This stretch of the ring road runs from Pulawska to the Przyczolkowska junction and is costing just over €278 million to construct, with the project being managed by Italian contractor Astaldi. One of the more complex and challenging aspects of the work will be constructing a tunnel section underneath a metro route.

A rural roads programme will develop Dagestan’s transport links, helping boost its economy. Some 135.5km of roads will be rebuilt and repaired. A budget of US$113 million was used in 2016 to rebuild 78km of rural roads and 19 bridges in the country during 2016.

A key stretch of the D3 highway in Slovakia will open in the third quarter of 2017. Work is due to commence shortly on a major highway project in the UAE. Costing in excess of US$136 million the Tripoli Roads Project is being managed by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Argentina is planning two new highway projects to widen and improve key sections of Route 40 and Route 33. A US$291 million project will upgrade a stretch of the existing Route 40 to highway status. The two year project will see the widening of the road between Mendoza and San Juan and the construction work will start in the third quarter of 2017. CartoConsult is now working on a project to develop technology intended to reduce traffic congestion and improve transport services. This work forms part of a £4 million Department for Transport (DfT) initiative and the mapping software technology company has been selected by Swindon Borough Council, together with IT and networking company Cisco. This will be used to deliver an alert system for traffic managers to supply information on congestion.
