The 9km project involved reconstructing areas of the road network as well as introducing a new 3.4km section of road, two bridges and viaducts and a two-level interchange. An additional three roundabouts were built with natural stone to assist with the flow of cars and trucks. Maanteeamet (the 2666 Estonian Road Administration) required a grout that would be durable and could withstand extreme temperatures, from freezing winters to warm summers.

Contraactors used Flowpoint rapid set flowable grout to point stone setts. Flowpoint is part of the UltraScape Mortar Paving System and as such it has been independently tested to British Standard 7533. Development and testing took place over number of years to ensure a durable finish which will not crack or stain, according to the manufacturer.

Flowpoint’s fluid consistency allows for large areas of paving to be grouted quickly. The flowable nature of the product means it is equally suited to grouting small cobbles on a driveway as it is large paving tiles in urban regeneration projects. This also makes it the ideal product for grouting uneven areas - essential for the Estonian project.

Importantly, Flowpoint can receive foot traffic in one hour and vehicular traffic in four hours. This keeps disruption to motorists and pedestrians to a minimum and allows contractors to move on to their next project quickly.

UltraScape's Mortar Paving System has also been used at Estonia’s Tallinn Old Town project, the Opera House in Dubai, Roxy Cinema in New Zealand and, in the UK, at MediaCity in Salford, the Savoy Hotel in London and the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham.
