Italian contractor Cossi Costruzioni will work on a major road maintenance package.
Italian firm Cossi Costruzioni will work on three contracts worth a combined total of €189 million for road sections in Italy. The company is part of the Webuild Group and will carry out maintenance work as well as safety upgrades and acoustic barrier installation for sections of motorway in Genoa, Milan, and between Bologna, Florence and Fiano Romano.
Cossi Costruzioni and its partner Manutenzioni Generali Autostrade (owned by Reway Group) became the preferred bidders for the contracts in August 2021. The partners won Lot 2 on the Ligurian network worth €49 million, Lot 6 worth €58 million in Milan, and Lot 9 worth €82 million in Lazio and Toscana. Cossi Costruzioni has a 71.5% share in Lot 2, 76.3% in Lot 6 and 83.2% in Lot 9.
Webuild says that it is using Cossi’s expertise to expand into the road and highway maintenance and rehabilitation business as Italy looks to improve the quality of its motorways. The country’s network is extensive, with the motorways alone exceeding 7,000km, and regional and provincial roads more than 15,000km. There are also 16,000 bridges and viaducts, most of which are more than 50 years of age.
