The Paraguayan Government says it will spend some US$1 billion on road projects in the area around Chaco, with those of highest priority being built within the next two years. The most important of the projects is the bi-oceanic corridor, which is expected to cost some $700 million to construct. The work on the bi-oceanic corridor is receiving financial support from the IADB and CAF. The first phase of the bi-oceanic corridor is for a 227km stretch of highway linking Loma Plata and Carmelo Peralta, with private funding of $300 million having already been secured. The second phase of the bi-oceanic corridor is expected to cost $400 million and will be for 500km of road in all.
