A series of major highway and road projects have been proposed for Vietnam. Investors have submitted a proposal to build North-South road costing an estimated US$383.8 million. Another proposal has come from the Project Management Board 85 to develop Bien Hoa-Tan Thanh-Cai Mep Seaport expressway, with an estimated cost of $591.5 million.

Vietnam’s HCM City People's Committee is now mulling over the project for the North-South road, proposed by local companies Moc An and Hoa Phong. The planned road will become part of the North-South linking route, which extends from District 12's Highway 22 to Nha Be District's suburban Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park. The road would have six lanes, linking Nguyen Van Linh Street and Ba Chiem Bridge in south Ho Chi Minh City. The HCM City Urban Traffic Management Zone No 1 also made an earlier proposal for another North-South route, which would involve the construction of a $304.3 million road to Nguyen Van Linh Street from Hoang Dieu Intersection in District 4.

Vietnam’s the Ministry of Transport is considering the proposal to build Bien Hoa-Tan Thanh-Cai Mep Seaport expressway. The work is hoped to commence in December 2016 should the approvals be given. The project should take two years to complete and would involve the construction of three intersections, seven bridges and 12 flyovers. The expressway route stretches for 46.8km. The main purpose of the project is to develop traffic infrastructure located in the southern economic zone including Long An, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
