The 2610 Ministry of Public Works in Chile (MOP) has announced that it will speed up the process for key infrastructure construction projects. Those projects involving investments of around US$1.10 billion should be approved by 11th March 2015. The Ministry of Public Works has indicated that three private concession contracts have already been approved, including the dual-carriageway road in Route 5 between Chacao and Chonchi and a road between Caldera and Antofagasta. The 968 Chilean government is promoting public-private partnerships (PPPs) involving investments in excess of $11 billion.
The tender for Agua Negra tunnel project is due before the end of 2014. The project will cost $1.6 billion and will connect Ovalle in Chile with San Juan in Argentina. Chile has two other projects for binational tunnels including the Baja Altura, which will cost $3.6 billion. For this, 40% will run through Chile. The other project is for the Las Lenas link, which will cost $1.7 billion and for this route, some 23% will be through Chile.
