The proposed Thailand land bridge project is to benefit from a study.
A study is now being carried out for the proposed land bridge project running across Thailand. The contract for the study was awarded by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy to local firm, Index International Group (IND).
However, the project is still some way off even if it achieves the necessary approvals. Design work is not anticipated to be ready until 2024. Securing the necessary financing for the project has still to be achieved.
The proposed land bridge is intended to connect Thailand’s coasts on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The project is intended to include both road and rail connections. The proposed route measures some 100km in length, with the intention of delivering an improved transport link between Thailand’s ports on its coasts with the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
The project is also intended to connect the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
