A new highway project in Tajikistan has secured a funding package worth US$350 million in all. Funding is being provided jointly by the 943 Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The work will see the highway running from Vakhdat to Karamyk, over the border in Krygyzstan, being improved and upgraded. The tender process for the contract is opening and the work will also include building a new 800m bridge. Vakhdat lies just to the east of Tajikistan’s capital city, Dushanbe, and the work will help improve international trade with neighbouring Krygyzstan.
