The contract for a stretch of the improved road link connecting with Namibia’s main international airport has been awarded to a Chinese contractor. The deal is worth US$81.2 million and will be carried out by Zhong Mei Engineering Group. The project had originally been awarded to another Chinese firm in a deal worth $64.3 million. However Namibia’s Roads Authority decided that this was too low a tender price and opted to remove the contract from the company. The new road will connect Namibia’s capital Windhoek with the Hosea Kutako International Airport. Part of the financing required for the project is being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
