Work will now be carried out for nine small-medium sized bridge projects in the US. The US$300 million funding package for the works is being provided by the US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

The bridges are located in eight US states, with the ninth in the District of Columbia. Included in the programme will be upgrade work for the Castleton-on-Hudson Bridge in Albany County, New York.

The nine bridge projects form part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Bridge Investment Program. This is intended to tackle bridge improvement and replacement works over a five year period. The work is needed as the US has a serious problem with deficient bridges in need of major repair works or complete replacement. A number of historic bridges in the US are included amongst those requiring improvement works.
