Construction work on a Florida expressway is on track.
Construction work for the Selmon Expressway project in Florida is on track with the route expected to be open in mid-2021. The 3km extension to the route is costing around US$230 million to construct. The new link joins the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway with Dale Mabry Highway and Gandy Bridge.
The new link will be tolled, which will pay for the construction of this elevated road section. The expressway stretch is built from 744 precast concrete segments, each of which weighs 65tonnes. The elevated section is 9m high and sits on 55 columns. It is expected to carry 100,000 vehicles/day, reducing congestion on existing routes in the Tampa Bay area.
