Bosnia and Herzegovina's Serb Republic has engaged China Road and Bridge Corporation to rebuild 15km of highway around Hum, close to the border with Montenegro.
Local news reports call the agreement a memorandum of understanding and cooperation for the work that would cost around €108 million. No other details of the work were given by the Serb Republic, which is a one of the two autonomous entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The road is part of the major route from Foca to Hum, a 151km motorway for the most part that lead south from Foca. It includes the M20 and M18 motorways.
Bosnia and Herzegovina recently signed a €110 million loan deal with the EBRD - European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - for construction of the Mostar North-Mostar South section of pan-European Corridor 5c.
The project will include the construction of an interchange and a 1 km dual-carriage motorway section, the EBRD said in a press release.
As well, the European Union will provide a €150 million grant through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) and up to €150 million will be secured from local commercial banks for the project.
The WBIF is a joint initiative of the European Union, financial institutions, bilateral donors and the governments of the western Balkans. It provides financing and technical assistance to strategic investments in the energy , environment, social, transport and digital infrastructure sectors. It also supports private sector development initiatives.
