A major road funding package has been secured for Bangladesh.
Financing has been secured for road improvement works in Bangladesh. The US$1.78 billion package is being supplied by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This will be used to improve the Dhakasylhet Trade Corridor, road corridor no5. The aim of this programme is to improve economic development in Bangladesh.
Road safety and mobility will benefit from the finance package, which will be delivered in a number of separate tranches. The first tranche will be worth $400 million and will be used for widening a 210km stretch of National Highway no2 from a single lane in either direction at present to two lanes in either direction. In all this widening project is costing $2.69 billion, with the Bangladesh Government securing $911 million of the financing required.
