Algeria’s Ministry of Public Transport is increasing the budget for the Bejaia highway project. An addition US$84.4 million has been secured for the project, which is being carried out jointly by the Chinese contractor CRCC and the local firm Sapta. The work on the highway is now said to be some 75% complete, with the project having cost $852.44 million. An addition US$84.4 million has been secured for the project, which is being carried out jointly by the Chinese contractor CRCC and the local firm Sapta. The work on the highway is now said to be some 75% complete, with the project having cost $852.44 million. There have been some setbacks however and there has been resistance from locals in the area between Sidi Aich and Amizour. When the highway is ready it will improve transport to and from the port city of Bejaia.
