The Albanian parliament has approved a public-private partnership (PPP) deal worth nearly €214 million for a 17km section of motorway between Milot and Balldre.

The contract, in northwest Albania, is with local contractor A.N.K. and includes maintenance of the motorway for 13 years.

Milot has a population of around 9,000 and Balldre has a population of only 6,000.

Last month the government announced another northwest highways deal, an upgrade to the 16km Qafe Thore-to-Theth road near Shkoder. The Albanian Development Fund said that local joint venture G.P.G. & Gjikuria was the winner of the €6 million contract.

The Albanian Development Fund is a public agency whose mission is to encourage a sustainable, balanced and cohesive socio-economic development at local and regional level. The ADF, established at the beginning of 1993, was created after an agreement between the Albanian government and the World Bank which has earmarked money for development of Albania’s roads.
