Paving an Australian bush road will improve a key transport link.
A US$506.6 million (A$676 million) project will see the road linking Halls Creek with the border of Western Australia State being sealed. This improvement to the Tanami Road will improve transport in the area. Many rural areas in Western Australia rely on unsealed roads, which can be blocked by seasonal rains and flooding.
Transport of goods in Australia’s rural areas is heavily reliant on road trains that have to negotiate unsealed roads and flooding can result in delays to supplies. Funding for the work is being provided by Australia’s Federal Government.
