The 2730 BICES 2015 construction equipment exhibition in China’s capital Beijing attracted a strong attendance. Visitor numbers were good while the event also had good support from exhibitors, both Chinese and international. The exhibition benefited strongly from its move to Beijing’s new exhibition centre, located close to the international airport and with far better access by public transport than the previous site. Many attendees chose to travel to the showground by metro, giving swift access from the city centre. Although road traffic was heavy as is usual for Beijing, the location also had better access in this respect also.
Several major Chinese construction equipment manufacturers chose to unveil new models at the exhibition.269 LiuGong, 1171 Shantui, Sinomach, 1173 Sunward, 8065 Techking, 2490 XCMG and 2713 XGMA were amongst the Chinese firms launching new products or unveiling new concepts. From LiuGong came a new large wheeled loader, a large excavator and a crane. The new LiuGong large wheeled loader and excavator form part of a new strategy by the firm to build its market share in the extraction industry. Shantui meanwhile showed four new bulldozers aimed at an array of duties, with the most innovative being its remote controlled machine for use in dangerous working sites.
Sunward has developed a new hydraulic hybrid excavator that is said to offer considerable reductions in running costs due to its improved fuel economy, while the firm has also further developed its range of piling machines. Sinomach unveiled its new second generation excavators while tyre firm8065 Techking was highlighting the first of a series of new products designed for custom applications, with an ADT tyre for wet running conditions. XCMG unveiled its latest 2m class milling machine as well as a clean running wheeled loader fuelled by gas and the novel XE75G short tailswing excavator. For XCMG the short tailswing excavator is a particularly important launch as the firm believes demand for this class of versatile machine is set to develop in China as well as in key export markets.
An innovative development from XGMA’s is its remote controlled excavator project, although this is still in development and will not be available to the market just yet. Based on proven military grade technology, the system allows construction equipment to be operated from a safe distance so that machines can be controlled accurately in tough working applications such as tunnelling, without risking human life.
International firms such as Korean attachment supplier Daedong Engineering and Japanese equipment companies233 Hitachi and 2300 Komatsu also had a strong presence at the show with new models being unveiled.
