CS Communication & Systèmes has announced the inauguration of the first Fast ETC lanes which the company developed on the A5 Expressway (Ruta Del Maipo) that links Puerto Montt in South Chile with Santiago Del Chile. This milestone is the first step in a wider project won by CS last year in which the company will implement a toll collection system with 80 electronic toll collection (ETC) lanes including 12 fast ETC lanes monitored by a full back office suite, due to be operational on the three main plazas and 39 entry and exit plazas in July 2012.

This project is part of an interoperability programme led by 906 Chile's Ministry of Public Works to reduce traffic congestion in Santiago de Chile and its suburb. CS says that Ministry representatives have been impressed by the new technology that will reduce traffic delays at toll plazas thanks to the Fast ETC lanes. To use these, drivers simply use their ETC tags which are fully interoperable with the Santiago Free Flow System which has been in operation since 2004. Every Fast ETC lane (limited to 50km/h) will be equipped with an electronic sign that will inform drivers of their speed and improve safety.

CS is committed to implementing its FastToll ERP solution which is a full back office suite developed to manage the whole toll collection system. This suite includes applications for monitoring and control, registering and managing accounts, billing, as well as enforcement all with complete interoperability.
