Work on the Tvrdosin-Nizna section of the R3 expressway in Slovakia should be completed in 2024 following an inspection by the National Motorway Company (NDS).
Delays have been put down to more complex geological conditions than expected which has pushed the completion date back from this month to next year. NDS has not yet reported by how much the original contracted cost €62 million will increase.
In February 2021, Slovakia’s National Highway Company (NDS) signed a contract to build the 4.4km Tvrdosin-Nizna stretch of the R3 with a consortium of companies - Hochtief SK, Porr and Hydroekol Dolny Kubin. The route runs along the left bank of the Oravy River.
The 200km-long R3, being constructed and updated in stages, passes through central Slovakia in a north–south direction along the European route E77, running 1,690km from the Baltic Sea in the north to central Europe.
