Improved road safety is being seen In Vietnam, which is bucking the trend for South East Asia. With the exception of Singapore, where road traffic is controlled strictly, Vietnam is the only large nation in the region to be benefiting from a reduction in road casualties.

Tougher enforcement of laws against drink driving as well as mandatory use of motorcycle helmets for all powered two wheeler users are now having an effect.

There were just 814 road users caught drink driving in 2023 according to official figures, compared with 13,000 in 2022.
