Turkey mega project opening for tender

The tender process is commencing for a US$5 billion contract to construct a bridge and a road network of roads in Turkey. The bridge will span the Dardanelles waterway and the project looks likely to attract strong interest from several major international construction firms. The tender process is commencing for a US$5 billion contract to construct a bridge and a road network of roads in Turkey. The bridge will span the Dardanelles waterway and the project looks likely to attract strong interest from several major international construction firms. The Çanakkale 1915 Bridge will be located at the western end of the Sea of Marmara, a short distance from Çanakkale. The 3.6km long bridge will feature a main span of 2.023km, making it one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. The bridge will be built between Sütlüce and Gelibolu, around 200km from Istanbul and will form part of the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Balıkesir highway project. The design for the bridge was developed by Tekfen Holding.

Japanese firms 4081 Itochu and IHI are expected to enter a joint tender bid, along with 3340 Makyol Insaat and 3338 Nurol also forming part of the partnership. Chinese firm Sichuan Road & Bridge is expected to partner with local companies to submit a tender proposal. 5739 Hyundai Engineering & Construction, IC Ictas Insaat, Kalyon Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret and Italy-based 1324 Astaldi are expected to join forces to submit a bid. 3088 Daelim Industrial, 3093 SK Engineering & Construction, 7010 Yapi Merkezi Insaat Sanayi e Ticaret and 5095 Limak Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret, are also working on plans to submit a joint bid. 4144 Cengiz Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret looks set to partner with 4150 Kolin Insaat Turizm Sanayi ve Ticaret to make a bid. China Road & Bridge International is also expected to bid in a partnership along with local firms. The tender process is taking place on 26th January 2017, with the actual construction work then expected to commence in late March 2017.
