A section of road in the US state of Georgia is to be used as a trial section for advanced smart highway technology. The section of Interstate I 85 is in a rural area and close to the border with Alabama. The 26km section of highway will be named after Ray C Anderson, a pioneer of recycling and sustainability in the US. The aim is to utilise advanced technologies that can help reduce the carbon footprint of the section of road, such as recycled materials and environmentally sensitive drainage. The section would also feature solar arrays to generate power and new technology to provide safety warnings to drivers of adverse conditions ahead. Vehicle charging stations for EVs will be installed, along with an array of other advanced new systems.
