The crane was used to erect 100m high twin bridge supports for the structure. The bridge is a dual-cable, pre-stressed concrete cable-stayed bridge featuring two towers. The bridge is located in Shandong and was recently opened to traffic.

The project was not without its challenges. Building such a large bridge spanning the Yi River required sophisticated methodologies and use of the latest technology. Mounting the cable supports at such a height using a crane required precise working.
To cope with the challenge, the construction team used an 2490 XCMG QAY500 all-terrain crane QAY500. This machine offers a maximum hoisting capacity of 500tonnes.Power comes from a Mercedes diesel and the crane features seven boom sections giving a maximum length of 84m. It can also be equipped with fixed king-size jibs of 56m, luffing jibs of 91m and a Y-shaped superlift structure, with torque up to 2800Nm.

The firm says that the crane benefits from a sophisticated hoisting system as well as an intelligent operation system. Its design meanwhile allows a minimum turning radius of 15m, so that the machine is able to turn around in such a confined site and in this application the feature was required due to the limited working space under the bridge.

The construction team was able to cope with the challenge nonetheless and the new structure will now help cut journey times for commuters in the area. The bridge is located in Luozhuang district.
