Work is underway on a major Croatian tunnel project.
Further progress is being seen with the Učka Tunnel project in Croatia. The second bore has now been driven. The 5.6km tunnel should be ready for drivers in mid-2024.
Building the second tube for the tunnel link is costing €200 million. The original tunnel opened to traffic in 1981, with its construction having commenced in 1978.
Having the new parallel tube for the tunnel link will help reduce congestion on the route, as well as boosting traffic safety. Various reports have criticised the existing single tube for its poor safety standards.
