Bridge monitoring technology will now be utilised to assess the condition of civil structures in the UAE. This follows an agreement between Italy’s University of Palermo and the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.

The deal will see live and continuous monitoring of the structural performance and behaviour of bridges in the UAE. This technology will be installed in bridges right across the UAE. The aim of the programme will be to ensure that maintenance schedules can be optimised, maximising the working life of the structures. The sophisticated technology will assess the effects of traffic loads and any changes in ambient tempaeratures over the long term and will also be able to predict future behaviour. The data received from the monitoring systems will be analysed by the University of Palermo on a continuous basis.
