The tender process is opening for Mexico City’s new airport road link.
A new highway link will connect Mexico City, capital of Mexico, with the new Felipe Angeles airport. The highway section will be 6.8km in length and connect the Ignacio Zaragoza and Penon-Texcoco highways. Called the Proyecto Autopista Conexion Oriente highway, the route is being offered as a 30-year concession package.
There are still questions however as to whether the new airport will adequately meet Mexico City’s future needs. The facility lies some distance from Mexico City and was originally called the Santa Lucia military aerodrome. It is being improved to handle civilian air traffic and has been renamed Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles. A separate programme to construct an all-new airport for Mexico City was recently scrapped on grounds of cost.
