Slovakia is to benefit from 16 transport projects that will improve the country’s connectivity. The projects that will go ahead include work for stretches of the R2 and R4 Expressways as well as the D1 and D3 highways. A number of rail links will also be improved. Approval has been given for the projects by the Slovakian Government. Those projects deemed strategic are those with values of over €50 million.

A tunnel section for the D1 highway linking capital Bratislava and Košice will now go ahead. However, decisions still have to be made about the Korbelka and Havran tunnels for the D1 highways. There are concerns that the former may affect the local water table.
