A key road construction project in North Carolina will be handled by a joint venture comprising Flatiron Construction and Fred Smith. The US$450 million package of works was awarded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority.
The partners will work on a 16km stretch of the Raleigh Outer Loop project. Another contract for the remaining stretch of road for the route is due to be awarded later in the year. The project should be ready by 2028.
This is one of a number of key contracts Flatiron Construction has won in recent times. The firm’s subsidiary EE Cruz was recently awarded the $137.7 million project to replace the Bronx River Parkway Bridge by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Along with the bridge replacement, the EE Cruz project team will improve roadway alignment, provide standard travel lanes, add shoulders and construct a dedicated exit ramp to East 177th Street. Construction is now commencing with completion expected in August 2026.
