Work is continuing in Costa Rica on the widening project for Route 32. There have been delays to the work, as well as a number of challenges. However, the contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), has said it will be able to complete the work as planned.
CHEC has held discussions with Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Works and Transports (MOPT) with regard to progress on the project. Although the work had originally been scheduled for completion by October 2020, it is now due to be finished by March 2021.
In all the work is costing US$465 million. Once the work is complete, it will improve transport to and from the port of Limon on Costa Rica’s coast. This will help boost traffic capacity to and from the port as well as aiding Costa Rica’s economically important tourism sector.
