They are among the five 4G highway concessions the government has planned for the Andean Region in the country’s second round of tenders. The 4G plan is one of the largest infrastructure programmes in Colombia's history. This is intended to improve the country's transport infrastructure as well as boosting the economy. Both the 176km Autopista Mar 1 and 245.6km Autopista Mar 2 are expected to be built in five years. Prequalified bidders must turn in their proposals for Mar 1 by May 22, and ANI expects to award the contract on June 30. Mar 2 proposals are due on June 5, with an award date set for July 15.
