Chile’s ambitious road development programme is continuing. Work is starting on the Americo Vespucio Oriente (AVO 1) highway project. This is expected to cost US$926 million and will provide an improved connection from the El Salto area to Principe de Gales. The work should be completed in the second half of 2021. However a number of complaints have been made with regard to the project, which could delay the timeframe once more. The project was originally due to open for traffic in 2020.
Meanwhile Chile’s Ministry of Public Works of Chile is delayed the deadline for the bidding process for the project to upgrade the 138km Camino de La Fruta road to 8th March 2018. The route will pass through six districts in the regions of Valparaiso and O'Higgins and the project is expected to cost $600 million.
And there is concern over plans for a new link joining Route 78 and Route 68. Just one bid was received for the 45 year concession, from Grupo Costanera.
