Slovakia’s state motorway company NDS says that year-long boring work for the twin-tube Bikos Tunnel near Prešov is finished.

The 1km tunnel is part of the 4.5km dual carriageway R4 Prešov, a northern bypass of the city. The consortium of Vahostav-SK and TuCon has been working on the section which is costing nearly €143 million (US$174 million). Work includes three bridges and all is scheduled for completion in March 2023.

Tunnel work includes a 700m-long anti-noise wall. The tunnel is being constructed using the New Austrian Tunneling Method and will have concrete road surfaces.
