Funding for the new Padma Bridge Project has been affected by the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan. The original plan was for Bangladesh to receive a US$400 million credit facility from 2416 Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the Padma Bridge project. However, this has now been delayed due to Japan’s devastating tsunami and earthquake. The Japanese government will begin processing the credit facility in the next financial year as it has to use its entire resources to rebuild its economy and will have to postpone all overseas aid.
